If you have bad credit, it affects you in so many ways. It’s tough to get loans and credit cards and it will make it a lot harder to get a mortgage. But one thing that you may not have considered before is how difficult it can be to get a phone contract. A phone contract is a form of credit like any other, and providers will usually do a credit check before they give you a contract. This can be an issue if you have poor credit, but there are contracts with no credit check available and some other things that you can try to make it easier to get a contract.

Finding A No Credit Check Contract

If you want a phone contract with no credit check, you will need to search around and compare some different deals. If you use a comparison site, you can find the best no credit check deals out there at the moment. However, it’s important to note that your options will be limited.

The best way to improve your chances of finding a no credit check contract is to go for a cheaper phone. When you take out a contract, the monthly payment covers the minutes, texts and data, but it also covers the cost of the phone itself. That’s why you pay higher monthly payments for the latest phones, and if you have poor credit, you will struggle to get these contracts. The thing is, phones don’t change a huge amount from year to year and a phone that is two or three years old will still do everything that you need it to do. If you go for a cheaper phone, you will be far more likely to find contracts with no credit check.

You should also consider a SIM only contract because providers are more likely to offer these without a credit check. They are not giving you a phone on credit, which means that the risk is significantly lower for them, so they are more likely to give you the contract with no credit check.

Don’t just stick to the well known providers either. There are lots of smaller mobile phone providers that specialize in contracts with no credit check, so make sure to shop around a bit.

What Are Your Other Options?

If you want to get a more expensive phone and you don’t like the options that you get with no credit check contracts, your only other option is to improve your credit score. If you keep applying and getting declined, your credit score will only get worse and it’ll be harder to get a contract. Instead, you need to spend some time trying to improve your credit score before applying again and you should be able to pass the credit check.

Paying off your debts and making sure that you pay all of your bills on time will gradually increase your score, but it can take time, so you should wait a while before applying for another contract.
